



In 2023 Dig Where You Stand commissioned fourteen artists to explore local archives and produce new work that captures the unknown history of people of colour in the region.
On the 8th August 2024 we gathered at the archives to hear how three of our artists used visual arts to bring archival material to life.
Kedisha Coakley, Seiko Kinoshita and Patricia Bugembe shared their experiences of discovering new stories and interpreting them through portraiture, wallpaper and installation.
It was a fascinating, wide ranging discussion that took us from 18th century Black servants in Wentworth Woodhouse, Rotherham, to the railways, Samurai culture and western modernisation in early 20th century Japan.

A live procession through Sheffield City Centre to honour the first recorded Chinese people in Sheffield and numerous other ancestors from East and South-East Asian communities who passed through or settled in South Yorkshire.
